Q.1 Why do organisms need to take food?
Ans. Organisms need food for many reasons:

  • All organisms take food for their energy needs. This energy helps them to grow. 
  • Food also helps in repairing and healing damaged body parts. 

  • For any kind of movement, such as walking, running, and even clapping, you need energy. And energy comes from food.


Q.2 Distinguish between a parasite and a saprotroph.
Ans. Difference between a parasite and a saprotroph:
Parasite-  

  • Parasite drives the nutritions from the living host.
    •  Ex. Cuscuta (Amar Bel)
      • Amarbel is the example of parasite.

 Saprotroph-

  •  Saprotroph gets its food from dead or decaying organisms.
    •  Ex. Mushrooms
       

Q.3 How would you test the presence of the starch in the leaves? 
Ans. The presence of starch can be tested by the Iodine test.
  • Take a potted plant with various leaves.
  • Put the leaves in the boiling water. It will remove the chlorophyll from the leaves.
  • Add two drops of Iodine solution.
  • If the color changes to blue, it indicates the presence of Starch.


Q.4 Give a brief description of the synthesis of food in the green plants.
Ans. Leaves make the food for the plants. The photosynthesis process occurs in the leaves of every plant. The green plants have chlorophyll in their leaves.
Water and minerals are transported to the leaves by the vessels throughout the roots, the stem, the branches and the leaves. The leaves use Carbon Di Oxide and water to make food in presence of sunlight.
